Description

A shimmering crystal containing the essence of of an element. It can be used as a component in the creation of magical items or as a source of elemental energy.

Elemental Infusion
The Crystalized Elemental Essence can be used as a potent component in the creation of magical items. When used in the creation of a magical item, it imparts an elemental essence to the item, granting it additional elemental properties or abilities. The exact effects and mechanics would depend on the item being created and the DM’s discretion.

Elemental Energy
As part of a standard action, the bearer can release the stored elemental energy within the crystal. The type of elemental energy (fire, ice, electricity, etc.) and the specific effects would depend on the type of element trapped within the crystal. This release of energy can be used offensively or for other purposes, such as creating elemental barriers, triggering environmental effects, or as a spell focus. Using the crystal this way may cause it to become inert and unusable until it has been recharged, or utterly consumed.

Elemental Energy

    • Offensive – The wielder can unleash a freezing blast as part a single attack action. This blast adds an additional 2d6 points of cold damage to the weapon’s attack and freezes the target in place, rendering them unable to move or take actions for 1 round. A successful Fortitude save (DC 15) negates the freezing effect. There is a 50% chance that the crystal becomes inert after using it in this manner.
    • Focus [cold] – When used as a focus for a spell with the cold descriptor it increases caster level checks for the spell by 2 and increases the cold damage by 1d6. If the spell has a duration other than instantaneous it is increased by 2 rounds. There is a 50% chance that the crystal becomes inert after using it in this manner.
    • Focus [admixture] – When used as a focus for a spell without the cold descriptor it enhances the spell in an unpredictable way at the DM’s discretion. The crystal becomes inert after using it in this manner.
    • Consume – The crystal can be shattered and consumed during the casting of a spell with the cold descriptor to gain the following effects. The caster level of the spell is increased by 2, the duration is increased by 50%, and all damage dice are increased by one set (d6’s become d8’s, etc.).
