Description
The Bulwark of the Unyielding Dawn is a, heavy steel shield overlaid with plates of pale gold, its surface marked by deep gouges, spider-webbed impact lines, and faint scorch scars that never rust, fade, or smooth with time, as though the metal itself refuses to forget the blows it has endured. At its center, Madri’s sigil is forged directly into the shield’s structure, its lines running deeper than the plating and binding gold and steel together as part of the shield’s very frame. When held by a sworn defender of Madri, the shield radiates a steady warmth, like the first light before sunrise. Along the top of the inside edge is etched, “Stand where the end must break.”
If wielded by one who does not follow Madri, it acts as a +1 heavy steel shield. If wielded by a lawful good or neutral good follower of Madri that has sworn an oath to defend others against overwhelming threats, it gains additional properties. When wielded by a valid bearer, it grants a +5 enhancement bonus to AC, Spell Resistance 25 against effects with the chaos or evil descriptors, immunity to fear effects, and a +4 sacred bonus on all saving throws. These bonuses apply only while the bearer is actively defending (not attacking in the same round).
Circle of the Unyielding Dawn (Su)
As a full-round action, the bearer can cast a circle of protection spell through the Bulwark—this does not expend the spell slot; however, the duration becomes concentration. The circle of protection gains the following additional effects: the circle cannot be dispelled, suppressed, or overridden. Effects that would erase creatures from existence, remove them from the timeline, or force surrender through fate, despair, or inevitability automatically fail while the creature remains inside the circle. This does not prevent damage, death or harm. Creatures within the circle cannot be forced to fail saving throws. Effects that would automatically succeed due to destiny, inevitability, or divine fiat instead require normal rolls. Any effect that says “this cannot be prevented” may be resisted normally.
If concentration is broken, the circle collapses immediately. The Bulwark then becomes inert for one minute.
